storyline:

Peter Parker, an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy, and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance -- leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Amazing as the last 3 Spider-man movies were, The Amazing Spider-man is as amazing!
Gwen Stacy was amazing! That is, Emma Stone was amazing as Gwen. Simple, no frills, lovely, sexy, your next-door neighbor pretty lady Gwen

Peter Parker was as you'd expect from Andrew Garfield - skinny Parker, puny Parker, emotional Parker, genius Parker. Andy played it with a William Shatner charm worthy of an Oscar (Bill should get one).
And as the amazing Spider-man, Andy proved he can be as good as Tobey, if not better.
Curt Connors/Lizard was played brilliantly by Rhys Ifans. And what can you say about Martin Sheen and Sally Field? They played Uncle Ben and Aunt May brilliantly as well even with limited screen time!
But, what surprised me was Dennis Leary's Captain Stacy. Dennis is good as a dramatic actor as he is a comedian.
For the Spider-man character, swinging and fighting full-costume, much better than the last 3, much more realistic.
